  • Description: Players wanting to take their game to the highest levels play on our Ames Thunder Travel Teams. The expectation is that both the player and parents understand that a higher level of commitment is expected to play in the competitive Travel Team environment. We offer teams in 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16U divisions which are formed through structured tryouts. A Travel Team typically consists of 10-12 players. We invite all interested players to tryout and will form multiple teams given enough players to do so. In such a case “A, B, or C” level teams will be formed and entered in proper class-level tournaments. Travel Teams operate under USSSA rules and age requirements in most cases but may operate with USA/ASA rules at times, depending on the rules of the respective tournaments.

Financial Requirements

AGSA is a non-profit organization which relies on donations, sponsorships, fundraisers, and player fees in order to operate. All coaches and board members are volunteers and unpaid. The 2024-2025 season contains 7 months of practice and games (August, September, October, March, April, May, and June).

This fee is made up of the following:

  • Team Fee - This team fee covers basic maintenance for facilities and equipment for fall & spring.

  • Uniform Top Fee - Uniforms are purchased by Ames Thunder one time per year. Each player is responsible for purchasing their own cleats, black pants, orange belt, and orange socks for games.

  • Tournament/Game Fee – This covers Fall League, Spring League, and USSSA tournaments. Additional fees may be charged if teams elect to play more games/tournaments.

  • Player Insurance Fee - All players are required to be insured through USSSA.

The total player fees for the 2024-2025 season are different for each division based on the allotted tournaments:

Payment Schedule

  • $200 due upon team offer acceptance (non-refundable).

  • Remaining fees can be split into monthly payments if desired.

    • First $400 of total is due by November 1st.

    • Remaining player balance is due by April 1st.

Missed/late payments may result in reduced playing time. Excessive failure to pay fees may also result in AGSA’s use of third parties to collect payment.

Additional Fees

Throughout the season, the team may be adding other items to each player’s uniform for tournament specific themes. At that time, the player will be required to pay the fee for the items being ordered. We will have fundraisers to help offset the cost. Ames Thunder always operates with a budget-friendly mindset when purchasing these items.

Financial Assistance

While we strive to keep our travel program as economical as possible, we understand the financial strain it can place on families. It is important to us to support players who have the competitive nature and desire for our travel program. Our association is proud to provide financial support to players in need through the generous donations of our sponsors. We request all interested players to attend tryouts regardless of financial support needs. If your player receives an offer to join a team, please request financial support at that time to the Director of Travel Teams.
