2011 Harry McMaken Summer Classic Rules & Information

Location


There will be 3 locations for this year’s tournament: Hunziker Youth Sports Complex (HYSC), River Valley North Fields (RVN), and River Valley South Fields (RVS). All locations are in Ames, IA. Directions to the complexes are available at: http://www.amesgirlssoftball.org/Directions.htm There will be a full concession stand available at HYSC and RVN.


All 10U and 14U games will be played at the Hunziker Youth Sports Complex. All 12U games will be played at River Valley North and River Valley South



Adult spectators will be charged $5/day. Children under 14 are free.


The parking lot near the blue and red buildings will be reserved for umpires, elderly, and disabled persons. Concession staff and tournament staff who need to come and go during the day will also need to park there. Please park only in the HYSC complex parking lots. There is no parking on the road or the grass. Towing will be enforced for violators who park on the road and in the turnaround area. The road and turnaround circle need to be kept clear for emergency vehicles. We appreciate your compliance and respect for our facilities by heeding the no parking signs

Tourney Rules

Please check in at least 30 minutes prior to your first game with a roster of all your players and USSSA registration cards with birth certificates. Check-in is at the shelter.


1. USSSA Rules will apply.
2. Home team will provide an official scorekeeper.
3. Teams are limited to 15 players on their roster.
4. 1 hr. 10 minute time limit or 7 innings (whichever comes first) for all games except championship games in each bracket. No inning may begin after the time limit has elapsed unless the score is tied. Final championship games on Sunday will be 7 innings with no time limit
5. Run Rule for all games: 12 after 3, 10 after 4, 8 after 5
6. Game time is forfeit time.
7. During pool play a coin flip will determine home team. Higher seed will be home on Sunday.
8. Protesting of games will not be allowed. All umpire decisions will be final.
9. No infield practice will be allowed during the tournament.You may warm up on the outfield or foul territory.
10. The international tie breaker will be used after the seventh inning or after the time limit has passed.
11. Tournament Directors reserve the right to modify these rules should extenuating circumstances warrant.
12. First aid kits and ice will be available from tournament director under the shelter.
13. Teams may bat their entire roster and substitute freely both day.
14. T-shirt sales will occur on Saturday and Sunday.


Sportsmanship Awards


To promote good sportsmanship, AGSA in conjunction with the Ames Area Sports Commission is sponsoring Team Sportsmanship medals for the team in each division that demonstrates the best sportsmanship. At check in, each team will receive cards to rate the opposing team’s coaches, players and fans on their sportsmanship. The umpires also rate each team. A ceremony will be held on Sunday to award these medals. We encourage the coaches, players and spectators to support this effort. Please be sure to turn in your completed cards at the end of the day on Saturday. We ask that all teams try to be present for the sportsmanship award ceremony on Sunday.


Tournament Seeding, and Tie Breaking Criteria


In order to seed the tournament and break ties, team data will be reviewed in the following sequence until ties are broken.

1. Win/loss record
2. Head to head if 2 teams are tied
3. Total runs allowed
4. Total runs scored
5. Coin toss

AGSA will e-mail seeding results ASAP after the conclusion of the final games on Saturday. A link with the seeds will be provided. Only the teams that play at 3:30, 5:00, and 6:30 will be called. Otherwise, please do not call until after 8:30 PM. We will get the information out to you as soon as possible.

In the event of bad weather, the tournament format may need to be changed. Game time limits may be shortened. Please check the AGSA homepage for tournament updates. All delays will be e-mailed and posted on the homepage marquee. If team standings cannot be determined, awards will not be given.

General Tournament Information

Entries will be accepted on a first come basis

Rules: 5 game guarantee (weather permitting) with pool play on Friday / Saturday and tourney play on Sunday. ASA rules will apply and all teams must be ASA registered. If weather should shorten play, head-to-head results and runs allowed will be criteria for determining brackets for tourney play and awarding prizes. Medals awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and winner of playback bracket.

Fee: $325.
